Festive 4th of July Desserts

The 4th of July is one of our favorite holidays to celebrate because it has a set color theme, no questions asked. From decor to fashion, there are endless amounts of ways to incorporate the colors of our flag into your Independence Day celebrations. However, our favorite way to get creative is through dessert! Put away the food coloring and take inspiration from this roundup of festive treats instead.

Green Summer Smoothies

It’s officially summer, and we’re turning to healthy green smoothies to cool us down while the weather’s heating up. Fine, so we’re crazy about them year-round. But there’s something about the icy texture of a good (guilt-free!) smoothie that just screams “summer.” Here are some of our favorites recipes. Chop your ingredients at night and wake up a few minutes early in the morning to blend them—your taste buds will thank you. Bonus for the cube-dwellers: pour your smoothie into a mason jar, bring it to work and stow it in the office fridge; come 3 o’clock, you’ll have a vacation in a glass.

What do you put in your smoothie? Are they life-changing or overrated? Tell us @ASargentEvents!

ASE Loves: Ticings

Fact: When you work in the event planning industry, you’re going to come across cake. And cupcakes. And cookies. And more cake. (Not that we’re complaining!) So what separates the good from the great? How does a sweet treat take home the gold?

Turns out, there are a few factors. Just like a diamond is judged by the 4 C’s (color, cut, clarity, carat), we at ASE judge sweets by the (less-demanding) 2 D’s: design and deliciousness. While it takes both factors to create the perfect baked good, we’ll leave deliciousness to the culinary experts. Today, we’re talking about design.

Enter Ticings. Launched in 2009, this company produces edible cupcake and cake toppers. In other words, Ticings let you transform your plain sweets into works of art—right in your own kitchen.

Here’s how it works: First, you frost your cake or cupcake so the frosting stays flat. Then, you peel the Ticing from the backing sheet—much like a sticker or temporary tattoo—and gently press it on to your cake. Done! Professional looking cake decorations at a fraction of the price and effort.

Ticings are gluten-free and completely edible. Their website lists the full list of ingredients here.

Choose from Ticings’ library of designs, or create your own. We’re currently loving the Custom Barcelona Monogram design—fitting for everything from birthday celebrations to graduation parties and everything in between.

Check out the rest of the designs at the Ticings website—don’t forget to tell them Allison sent you! What’s your favorite design? What occasion will you use Ticings for?

We’ll be reading your responses—while decorating cakes of our own—at @ASargentEvents.

Congrats, Grad!

‘Tis the season for mortarboards, tassels and graduation gowns! Whether it’s kindergarten or eighth grade, high school or college, grad school or law school, commencement is an important milestone for the graduate and their family. Throw your scholar a bash he or she deserves. Skip the generic party store decor and take a look at these ideas instead.

Made to order—Etsy.

It’s almost summer! Show some color. Another idea: use school colors—Martha Stewart.

Nothing generic about this bar backdrop—Martha Stewart.

Nothing beats a clean house with simple party decorations—White Whimsy.

Make a timeline using your grad’s school portraits—Pear Tree Greetings.

ASE Loves: The Original Runner Company

All brides-to-be should walk down the aisle in style; that’s Wedding Planning 101. But we feel that the aisle itself should be an extension of the couple’s wedding theme. All eyes are on you, so why not roll out the red (or any color!) carpet for your big day?

We’re fans of The Original Runner Company—creators of the world’s first non-slip fabric aisle runner. In fact, ASE’s own Carly created and ordered a gorgeous custom runner from the company for her own wedding.

Carly2You can customize your colors, designs, monograms and even add an inspirational quote or saying. A runner from the Original Runner Company will be the standout detail everyone notices. We’re not the only ones obsessed with the thought of walking down a perfect aisle—ORC has been featured on Shark Tank, The View and in Brides magazine, among others. Celebrity clients include Bethenny Frankel, Nicole Richie and Kim Kardashian (we won’t comment on her short-lived marriage to Kris Humphries, but there’s no denying that the ceremony was fabulous!).

However, our favorite part of having a custom runner is that after the vows have been said and the ceremony has ended, you’ll always have a piece of your wedding to serve as a reminder of your first day together as husband and wife. One option we like is framing the monogrammed part of the runner; but the possibilities are numerous.

We proudly support this creative company located right in our neighborhood in Montclair, NJ. Check out their website, give them a call and don’t forget to tell them Allison Sargent sent you!

Recycle Your Halloween Costume

This year, don’t buy an expensive, one-size-fits-all outfit and risk looking like an inappropriate bumblebee at your office party. Instead, create and recycle a tasteful costume by investing in one key piece that you can re-wear by swapping a few accessories.

Here are a few of our favorite ideas:

Investment piece: fringe dress
Halloween: boa. headband. necklace. tights. gloves. heels.
Wear it again: earrings. ringclutchpumps.

Investment piece: tulle skirt
Halloween: earringsleotardbowleg warmersballet flats.
Wear it again: watch. t shirt. boots. purse.

Investment piece: flannel shirt
Halloween: hat. boots. shorts. bandana. belt.
Wear it again: necklace. bag. booties. jeans.

Investment piece: high low skirt
Halloween: scarftank. earrings. boots. necklace. bangles.
Wear it again: top. purse. bracelet. wedge.

Tell us: how will you recycle your Halloween costume back into your wardrobe?

Wedding Wednesday

Happy wedding Wednesday! Hope you are all having a great week so far. ASE loves making inspiration boards for our brides. Here are some of the photos catching our eyes lately. We love how these photographers captured the entire mood of the couple’s wedding day. Enjoy!

ASE Loves: Oversized Flower Arrangements

Do you love this flower arrangement as much as we do? Of course the silver chairs paired with the pure white table paired with the (way) oversized flowers gets us, but we’re pretty sure they could put this centerpiece anywhere and we’d be swooning. We are always big fans of long tables at a wedding, it gives more of a sense of family and sharing. If you are going to have as many guests as the couple from this wedding obviously did, you’ll need big flowers to make a big impression on your guests. Having multiple oversized flower arrangements mixed with smaller flowers lining the table is sure to make your wedding one for the books!

Signature Drinks

Signature drinks (or cocktails) at events have become more and more popular over the recent years. Here at ASE, we think if done correctly, a signature drink can be a great touch that will add flair and fun to any event.

The signature cocktail reflects the theme of the event; it could be the host’s favorite liqour, match the color scheme, or could be named after the hosts! ASE’s signature drink is the Fleur-De-Tini, but we would love to hear what yours is!

Fleur-De-Tini Recipe:
6 Mint leaves
8 Blueberries
1 Tsp sugar
Dash of lime juice
Add ice
1 1/2 oz Light Rum
Strain ice & Enjoy
